CWO-2 Kenneth Ottley was born on December 14, 1962 in New York City. On May 25, 1982 he reported to and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., in August 1982 and was assigned to Provisional Service Company, 1st FSSG, 29 Palms, California where he was assigned as the orders clerk for the S-1. In May 1985, CWO-2 Ottley, after completion of the NCO Academy aboard Camp Pendleton, was transferred to Marine Security Guard Battalion where he served as a Marine Security Guard at the American Embassies San Salvador, Vienna, Austria and Kinshasa, Zaire. While on the MSG program, CWO-2 Ottley served in supporting roles in support of the Defense Arms Summit headed by Secretary of State George Shultz in Geneva, Switzerland. In January 1988, CWO-2 Ottley ended his active duty career and transferred to the Marine Corps Ready Reserve. He joined the Anti-Tank TOW section as a Sergeant of Marines and was assigned as the Admin Chief. In January of 1988, CWO Ottley ended his active duty Career and joined Anti-Tank/TOW Company, 8th Tank Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve.
In February 1989, CWO-2 Ottley was boarded and accepted to the 33rd Interrogator Translator Team (ITT). During the 1990 build up for Operation Desert Shield/Storm, CWO-2 Ottley deployed to GITMO Cuba in support of Operation Fence Jumper. CWO Ottley accepted a position as Police Officer Trainee with the Miami-Dade Police Department, Miami-Dade, Florida. He attended the Police Academy and Graduated with honors as the Class Commander. He has served the Miami-Dade Community with distinction as a uniform Police Officer, Detective in General Investigations, and a Detective in the Homicide Bureau. In April of 2001 he was promoted to Police Sergeant. He is currently the supervisor for the MDPD, Northside Districts Special Enforcement Unit.
From February 1990 to June 1997, CWO-2 Ottley was the Training NCO for the 33rd ITT. During this period he attended Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE) Course, participated in Operation Battle Griffin, Norway, Deployed to Panama in support of the Blue water/Brown water intelligence support team, deployed in support of Operation Uphold Democracy, Haiti and Operation African Lion aboard the USS Tortuga (LSD). From 1997 to 2004, CWO-2 Ottley was transferred to the HQMC, IMA detachment and was assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), FOB Miami. During this period, he was the senior enlisted advisor to the FOB Commander and was instrumental in the creation of several ground breaking collection platforms. In March of 1999, CWO-2 Ottley was mobilized and deployed to the Republic of Mali, where he participated in the establishment of the first Defense Attaché Office and Operation Dobra Range. He then transitioned to Combat Operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslavia. He and his team were assigned to I Coy, Allied Military Intelligence Battalion (AMIB), in the wake of Operations Joint Forge and Allied Force.
In October of 2004, CWO-2 Ottley was mobilized and deployed in support of OIF/OEF. From January of 2004 to December of 2006, CWO-2 Ottley completed successful assignments as Team Chief, MARDET Kuwait, SNCOIC, CI DET, MARCENT, Djibouti, Team Chief, HET-11, Fallujah, Iraq where he participated in Combat Operations during Operation Al Fajr. Upon his return he was assigned as Team Chief, G-2, Marcent, McDill AFB where he was selected for Warrant Officer. In December of 2006, CWO-2 Ottley assumed his current post as Commander of the Humint Support Team-2, Hialeah, Florida. In 2008, CWO-2 Ottley led a team to South America in support of a USSOUTHCOM initiative.
In January of 1988, CWO Ottley ended his active duty Career and joined Anti-Tank/TOW Company, 8th Tank Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve. In February 1989, CWO Ottley accepted a position as Police Officer Trainee with the Miami-Dade Police Department, Miami-Dade, Florida. He attended the Police Academy and Graduated with honors as the Class Commander. He has served the Miami-Dade Community with distinction as a uniform Police Officer, Detective in General Investigations, and a Detective in the Homicide Bureau. In April of 2001 he was promoted to Police Sergeant. He is currently the supervisor for the MDPD, Northside District Field Training Squad supervising the training of Probationary Police Officers.
