Dawn Lyons is a Public Records Specialist with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO). She began her career at the agency in 2001 where she worked in the Property and Evidence Division.
In 2003, she became a Forensic Science Specialist and transferred to the Forensics Division and worked in that capacity for 18 years. During that time she worked numerous major crimes, department shootings, and homicides for the Sheriff’s Office as well as for numerous other contract municipal agencies within the county. During her time in Forensics, she had been a member of the Major Case Response Team and a Field Training Officer.
In 2012 Dawn was the recipient of the Captain Lou Kubler Award of Excellence for Specialist of the Year, which is the highest award given to Forensic Specialists for her exemplary work on the Clearwater case of the death of an elderly woman. It was was believed to be an accident due to natural causes. Based on Dawn’s training and experience she recognized this as a homicide. The suspect was apprehended after he fled the state. DNA from the body and scene matched that of the suspect.
In 2020 Dawn passed a national certification testing with the International Association for Identification and is a Certified Crime Scene Analyst.
In 2021 Dawn transferred to the PCSO Public Records Processing Unit where she handles redactions of records, reports and body cam footage for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office pursuant to the guidelines detailed by Florida State Statutes.
